Why Sponsor Scholarships Through Dollars for Scholars?

Greater Visibility for your scholarships. Dollars for Scholars® helps to promote scholarship sponsors by broadening recognition through the Chapter's promotional efforts at:

  • The Wahpeton Senior High Awards ceremony held on an evening in May each year at the Senior High.

  • We maintain a large recognition plaque at the inner entrance of the Main door to Wahpeton Senior High which lists all significant contributions to the endowment fund.

  • Placement of pictures and information in the Wahpeton Daily News regarding awards recipients and donors.

Your contribution to Wahpeton Dollars for Scholars supports the purpose and objectives of this organization.

Financial gifts to Wahpeton Dollars for Scholars may be designated for use in two ways.

Sponsored Scholarships

Any individual, family, business, may donate a scholarship to be awarded in that year, and in the donor's name. The award minimum is $1,000 and may be designated for a specific career area (automotive, teacher, electrician, engineer, etc) or for a special category such as 'First Generation College Student", etc. A number of options are available and open for discussion. The benefits to the donor include: they can do this for one year or many years, the Wahpeton chapter handles the application/selection process so more students get awards rather than one or two winning many, a pass-through award qualifies for the benefits of the Collegiate Partner program and Matching Collegiate Partner program which enhances your local award.

Endowment Gift

If the gift is designated for the endowment fund, it would be placed in the fund as part of the endowment overall. Should the gift meet or exceed the amount of $25,000, a named scholarship would be awarded annually, in perpetuity, in a name desired by the gift donor. Any individual, family, business or class reunion group may donate a minimum of $5000 and have a named scholarship formed. The selection process will be handled by the Wahpeton chapter and the donor has the fun of awarding his/her award to a student at the awards ceremony or the chapter will do that according to the donor wishes. Again, if specific criteria are desired for the recipient to meet, the wishes of the donor will be honored.

All donations are tax-deductible because Wahpeton Dollars for Scholars is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
